International Gift and Home Furnishing Markets

Just about packed and ready to head to the airport for my flight to Atlanta, Georgia. Market begins tomorrow but today is an artists reception at the courthouse in Douglasville, Ga where my business partner Carolyn Blanton is in charge of all art exhibits. This market is held every January and is attended by about 200,000 people from all over the world. This will be about my 18-20th time to go! Love the "forecasts of style, trends and colors" presented in the show rooms and seminars. After hearing about 2013 for 4 days, one tends to forget that it is just barely 2012! Will try to post snippets of what we saw or heard each evening so you can live in the future along with Carolyn and I.

Colors look really toned and tinted---hmmmm---right when I'm feeling very pure pigmentish.

FORECAST EXAMPLES #1: Here are some examples of the forecast color and design trends for 2012. All my photos were taken in the showrooms at the Atlanta Gift and Home Decor market held in January.

Have to agree with Neadeen, that bottom center one is my favorite too.  Those photos put me in the mood to redecorate my house, but that will have to wait till Spring.  Linda, thanks for sharing.

Sheliah: Color is the subject of my next post....yes is the answer and Tangerine Tango is the name of the red orange for 12. I have plenty of examples to post of the "new blues and purples" and all the other hues that are predicted to be popular in 13. January market is always the fall and christmas market so we saw the future.

Love the table-scapes below...especially bottom row center image...I have those green bottles and just love working with them. Thanks so much for sharing Linda, nice to see the product lines too. I miss those shows.

I have heard that blues and purples are "in" along with orange?  Did you see any examples of this?

Home from market and will try my best to sneak some time to complete this blog. Our 2nd seminar was really interesting! It was all about "styling" a room. This means "layering" the accessories in the room. Grouping items on the shelves and tables and using angles to arrange the furniture elements in a room. The designer talked about how the rooms you see in the magazines have been arranged for the best photo shots. Her job was to "style" the elements in room to create a personality, mood  and to draw attention to the main focus in the room. This was usually the product that the manufacturer was advertising. Line of design, varying heights and weights, combinations of surfaces (textures) and color coordination was discussed. If you closed your eyes and just listened you would think you were in an art class!....Here are some examples of "styled" areas in a few of the showrooms that Carolyn and I thought fit the criteria we had been given in the seminar. Next blog addition will present "colors" for 2013....

Wonderful photos and ideas. Thanks so much for sharing. Now I need to start thinking about next Christmas's paintings and decorations.
